Wellness Wednesday: Self-care tips

Are you in need of some TLC? Here are three simple ways that you can start to practice the nurturing act of self-care. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Self-care as a regular practice actually empowers us and helps us to have more energy so we can give our best to those around us.


1. Do something you enjoy – Often our hobbies are the first things to fall by the wayside when life gets hectic but these hobbies are so essential for helping us to relax, lower our stress levels and have a better sense of overall wellbeing. If you’ve let a hobby fall by the wayside, why not dedicate some time to taking it back up? Or, if you don’t have a hobby, why not explore some that tap your interest? You may find that you’re a dab hand at knitting or that you really enjoy practicing yoga.

2. Take yourself on a date – Time alone can be fantastic for recharging our batteries so why not take yourself out on a solo date? Spend your day doing whatever it is that you’d like to do. Whether it’s going to the library, visiting a museum or having a coffee in that new coffee shop, take a day to yourself to do whatever lights you up and then notice how you feel afterwards. If you feel brighter and happier, why not try scheduling in a solo date once a month?

3. Nourish yourself – A big part of self-care is learning how to truly nourish and care for ourselves. Why not see if there’s a part of your life that needs more nourishment? Maybe your body is craving healthier foods or more sleep? Or perhaps your mind needs nourishment in the form of crossword puzzles or more time spent reading. List everything that you think would help and try to do at least one thing on your list every day.
