Wellness Wednesday: Health benefits of ginger
One of the healthiest spices in the world, ginger has been used for its medicinal properties for centuries. Loaded with nutrients, it’s always a good idea to have some of this spice in your home. Here are three of the (many) wellness benefits associated with ginger
Take three… Health benefits of ginger
1. It’s great for treating nausea – Whether it’s morning sickness or just a general upset stomach, ginger is highly effective when it comes to treating nausea. If you’re feeling a bit queasy, try sucking on a boiled ginger sweet, supping on a cup of ginger tea or (if you’re really brave) chewing on a raw slice of ginger. Ginger is considered safe to consume, but if you’re on any kind of medication or pregnant, talk to your doctor before you use it as a self-treatment.
2. It can help with inflammation – As well as being used to treat nausea, ginger has been effectively used to reduce inflammation in the body. Various studies have found that ginger can be effective when it comes to treating the inflammation that’s associated with osteoarthritis. Again, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor before you begin supplementing.
3. It aids in digestion – Ginger is full of phenolic compounds which are known to relieve digestive discomfort and ease gastric contractions as food moves through the gastrointestinal tract.
