Wellington Eye Clinic launches free eye care webinars

Working from home has become the new norm for many people and that brings its own challenges in terms of screen fatigue and dry eye syndrome becoming more evident. In response to many requests and questions from people during the lockdown, the Wellington Eye Clinic has created a series of free webinars on general eye care which address many of the questions being asked of its helpline. Full details are available on www.wellingtoneyeclinic.com and the clinic’s social media pages.

In addition, the Wellington Eye Clinic has launched a virtual consultation system. This is for use during this uncertain time for those who have an issue with a red eye, a sore eye, or reduced vision and want to get an opinion without seeing someone in person to reduce the exposure to coronavirus. This service is also being used for existing Wellington Eye Clinic patients who require follow up care at the moment.

This highly effective virtual consultation is conducted on an app called doxy.me that is very easy to use from the patient's point of view. The team at the Wellington Eye Clinic will send a patient a text message, the patient can click on the link and this opens an Internet-based website that allows the video interaction.

Speaking about this new service Mr Arthur Cummings, Medical Director at the Wellington Eye Clinic, said “we have, in accordance with government guidelines, closed our clinic at the Beacon Medical Campus except for emergencies that must be seen in person. However, we have been inundated with queries about eye care, Covid 19, screen fatigue and dry eye syndrome, so we decided to create these webinars. In addition we are most anxious to continue to offer our patients the option to have follow up consultations.  There are many people who may be nervous about leaving home, but have some eye condition concerns, and many of these can be addressed by this very sophisticated app that we have access to for such consultations. It cannot replace an in-person consultation but is significantly more sophisticated than a phone call”.

To make an appointment people can send an email to help@wellingtoneyeclinic.com and the team will set up a virtual appointment. The appointment costs €75 and should be possible within a couple of days.
