Jet Setting Beauty
Rachel Spillane shares her favourite beauty products for travelling.
We all want to look our best on our holliers and despite thinking you need to bring everything but the kitchen sink with you, streamlining your makeup bag when travelling is quite simple. Bring it back to basics and start with the right toiletry bag. My favourite is The Flat Lay Co. Open Flat Box Bag (€24.95, visit lookfantastic.ie). It’s spacious but neat and a bonus, it lays flat so you don’t waste time rooting through products. You should be able to fit skincare, haircare and your makeup as well as any extras like a toothbrush, razor etc; Just remember, essentials only and it can be done.
HAIRCARE
Buying travel size shampoo and conditioner before trips can get expensive, not to mention it can take up precious space in your suitcase.
Almost every resort villa, apartment and hotel will have shampoo and conditioner readily available so I never bother bringing my own. However, I will always bring a hydrating hair mask. You can get these in packets so they’re perfect for travelling or most brands have a travel size option. I use the K18 Leave-in Molecular Repair Hair Mask (€59, visit millies.ie) which is only 50ml, an ideal size, and it really is a miracle worker for brittle hair. Chlorine is not my friend. I also bring a small hairbrush that will fi t in my handbag like the Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Detangling Hairbrush (€17.50, visit boots.ie). It’s extremely gentle on hair so it’s great to use on kids too.
SKINCARE
Try and keep it as simple as possible for holiday skincare. Micellar water to remove stubborn eye makeup, a gentle cleanser and a good quality moisturiser with SPF are all you need for clean skin. Bioderma, the quintessential brand for micellar water, have travel-size options for different skin types and the best thing is the bottle can be reused for your next trip. Decanting any full-size products into travel bottles and small pots is worth the hassle, especially if you have your skincare routine down to a fine art.
MAKEUP
A glowy, natural base looks beautiful when on holiday and it’s so easy to achieve. Stick to products that will keep your skin looking like skin like tinted moisturisers or CC creams. I also recommend looking at palettes over individual products. Blush and bronzer duos and eyeshadow quads take up less room and they’re usually great value for money. I've put together some of my tried and true travelling products for you.
