Trend Alert

Embrace bold colours, metallic accessories and faux leather this autumn, says Rachel Spillane. Here are 4 fashion trends to look forward to…

Sequins

From mermaidesque scales to Great Gatsby glamour, sequined pieces sashayed their way down runways earlier this year. Designers Givenchy and Bottega Veneta showed us that sequins are no longer confined to December, and can be really wearable when styled correctly. Opt for glittery sheer blouses to elevate your daytime look or go all out in a sequin evening gown at your next event.

Dopamine Dressing

Designers embraced an array of colours this year, creating pieces in shocking brights to lift some of the darkness out of their collections.

Valentino and Oscar de la Renta favoured bold magenta hues while Alexander McQueen wowed audiences with neon greens. If you’re not sure the dopamine dressing trend is for you, why not test the waters with statement earrings o or a colourful scarf?

Biker Chic

Balenciaga, Burberry and Alexander McQueen took the lead on biker chic this year. Leather jackets, studded accessories and tight black pants were seen rockin’ catwalks with a huge focus on oversized leather jackets, including faux, in an array of colours. Remember to check your local charity, vintage and thrift stores if you’re looking for real leather.

Metallic Accessories

Metallics are back and better than ever with collections from Jil Sander, The Row and Chanel swapping neutrality for something fun this autumn. Designers enhanced their looks with a pop of metallic in silver and gold by using accessories. A large tote, classic mules or a simple belt are easy ways to try out the metallic trend.
